Course information
The Introduction to Risk Management course is acknowledged throughout North America as a superior insurance course.  It is designed to give you a working understanding of why risk management is important to you and your clients.  The course will be of interest to all insurance professionals.

Objectives of the course include:

  • Understand the factors to consider when implementing and monitoring a risk management process.
  • Describe methods for measuring risk management results and for evaluating the performance of risk managers.
  • The language of risk management and the terms and ideas commonly used by risk managers.
  • An overview of the risk management process, a systematic approach to the analysis and treatment of loss exposures.
  • How numerous people in various roles work together to perform risk management functions.
  • The basics of risk management to give you a foundation for future educational pursuits.


Course Outline
The manual covers six chapters of risk management situations.  Case studies will test your understanding of the program.  The manual also provides review and sample exam questions.

The 1 ½ hour examination is comprised of 40 multiple choice questions. 

You may take the exam on any of the scheduled examination dates. Your completed exam will be sent to the Insurance Institute of America (IIA) to be graded.  IIA will notify you directly of your results. The pass mark for the examination is 70%.  Upon successful completion of the exam, you will earn a certificate of completion from the Insurance Institute of America.
