Course Information
The Canadian Professional Insurance Broker (CPIB) is a senior designation program developed by the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) and its provincial/regional Member Associations. It is specifically designed for property and casualty insurance brokers and is positioned at a university level of study.
Admission prerequisites for the designation are either the CAIB or AIIC/CIP designations. Prerequisites will be waived for CCIB graduates.
Course Outline
Designed for the property casualty marketplace, the CPIB program has three distinct streams: Personal Lines, Commercial Lines and Broker Management. Within each stream, three broker-specific mandatory courses and three elective courses must be completed to earn the designation. Students are expected to complete an entire stream of CPIB courses in order to earn the designation.
IBAC will award the CPIB designation to successful candidates who meet the following conditions:
- they are employed by an insurance brokerage;
- that brokerage is a member in good standing of the provincial association (IBAS) at the time of the granting of that IBAC designation;
- that brokerage continues to be a member in good standing of the provincial association.
Non-members who complete the CPIB program are only entitled to a certificate of completion. However, a licensed non-member who works for a brokerage that would otherwise be eligible for IBAS membership, and who is neither a principal nor a shareholder in that brokerage may apply for an annual associate membership with IBAS in order to use the CPIB designation.

Human Resources Management

Business Administration
The Business Administration course provides an introduction to the nature of organizations and the external environment within which they operate. Surviving and prospering in today's business world requires an understanding of the broader issues that organizations face - the social, political and economic context within which they operate. The fundamental aim of this course is to introduce you to many of these critical concerns and to prepare brokers to deal with the variety of challenges and opportunities present in the work-place today and tomorrow.
Organizational Behaviour
The Organizational Behaviour course introduces concepts of individual and group behaviour as they affect performance in organizations. Topics covered include motivation, communication, decision making, leadership and structural issues. Lectures and case discussions are employed to develop theoretical models and illustrate their use.
Examination Format
All of the above course exams are multiple choice and are completed online in a proctored environment. Students must contact the IBAS office directly to arrange an exam sitting. Students require a mark of 50% or higher to pass the course. Students receive their results immediately upon completion of the examination.
